  • 3D Breast Anatomy | Rachellarueallen

3D BREAST ANATOMY THROUGH LIFE STAGES Project Type Dissertation for University of Dundee’s MSc Medical Art Program Media 3D Interactive Digital Models Software ZBrush, Sketchfab Audience 3rd Year Medical Students For my dissertation, I worked with an anatomy professor at my University who requested 3D digital models of breast anatomy to supplement the 2D resources they are currently limited to in their third-year medical student anatomy class. The project included three models that show the changes in breast anatomy throughout possible life stages of a female: non-lactating, lactating, and post-menopausal. The 3D models were built in ZBrush and then imported into Sketchfab so that the students can interact with them from all angles. Screenshots and labelled diagrams were also included within a dedicated website to supplement the models. 2D SUPPLEMENTAL IMAGES NON-LACTATING LACTATING MENOPAUSAL PLANNING AND WORK IN PROGRESS SCREENSHOTS Adjustments made in the shape of the lobes and the shape of the fat layer: BEFORE AFTER

  • Sleep Apnea Wax Ecorche | Rachellarueallen

OBSTRUCTIVE SLEEP APNEA WAX ECORCHE Project Type Assignment for University of Dundee’s MSc Medical Art Program Media Wax, Oil Paint Software (for the digital model) ZBrush, KeyShot Audience Anatomy Students, Medical Students For this assignment, we were expected to produce a wax sculpture of a lifesize head and neck that was at least 50% écorché, showing the internal structures. I chose to focus mine on obstructive sleep apnea and the physical features that affect it. Starting with a 3D printed skull provided to us, I then cut away part of the left side to expose the tongue, as well as shortened the condylar head so that the mandible would appear shorter. Next, I added the tongue and uvula showing a blocked airway, and then added facial muscles, esophageal cartilage, vertebrae, and the thyroid. On the right side I focused showing the muscles and blood vessels that are used to distinguish between the different triangles of the neck. For the digital model, I used photogrammetry to produce a 3D replication of the wax sculpture, and tidied it up using ZBrush.

  • Hand Dissection Line Drawing | Rachellarueallen

HAND DISSECTION LINE DRAWING Project Type Assignment for University of Dundee's MSc Medical Art Program Media Digital Drawing Software Adobe Photoshop Audience Anatomy Students This assignment was to create a black and white line drawing in Adobe Photoshop of a hand dissection. I chose to illustrate the dorsal view of the hand, with an emphasis on the dorsal interossei muscles. I started with a sketch built from multiple prosections and models and then began building the drawing layer by layer for each anatomical structure. After the initial drawing in Photoshop, I cross referenced the anatomy with resources in our anatomy museum and then executed these changes in the final drawing. FINAL ILLUSTRATIONS PROJECT PLANNING

  • Axillary Variation Illustrations | Rachellarueallen

AXILLARY VARIATIONS Project Type Self-Directed Project for University of Dundee’s MSc Medical Art Program Media Digital Drawings Software Adobe Photoshop, Procreate Audience 4th Year Medical Students For this self-directed project, I worked with an anatomy professor at my University who was wanting illustrations of anatomical variations. They stated that variations in the axillary were something that they needed better illustrations of, specifically what it would look like during an axillary clearance. The goal was to be able to show the 4th year students what they may come across if they were ever needing to work within the axilla. I created the typical axilla and its anatomy, and then also two of the more common variations: axillary arch and pectoralis quartus. I then overlayed the surgical illustration to show what an axillary clearance view might look like. Although they only needed the images for lectures, I also put the images within a mockup textbook page to be able to present the illustrations together within context.
